About YEVA

Our Mission

YEVA - Youth Empowerment Values Advocacy is a program dedicated to empowering diverse youth in Calgary, including newcomers and Indigenous communities, by creating a youth-led leadership workshop and community engagement projects, and providing ongoing opportunities. Our mission is to support the successful growth of youth and provide a sense of belonging and purpose.

Bridge

What does YEVA look like?

Mentorship:

A youth can be paired with another similar youth in the program, OR older volunteers who offer guidance and support for school work, career paths, cultural adaptation, and personal growth.

Can be virtual, in person, or even through texting, phone, or email.

The student can choose between a youth or older mentor, and they coordinate dates together and check in monthly.

Activity Days

Once a month, students get together in groups and do a variety of fun monthly activities to build leadership skills, personal growth, and making right choices.

These sessions also help build long lasting friendships amongst the youth.

Lesson Days
Each month, volunteers come in to give presentations or motivational talks about subjects such as success stories and growth.

While students enjoy snacks and share a sense of community, they also learn valuable lessons from experiences individuals. Other subjects include insights about physical or mental health, Indigenous history, communication, social tips, financial literacy, building resumes, public speaking, etc.
